KupariIoksidi

KupariIoksidi, also known as copper(II) oxide or cupric oxide, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CuO. It is the more stable of the two common oxides of copper, the other being copper(I) oxide (Cu2O). KupariIoksidi is a black solid that is insoluble in water but soluble in acids.

This compound occurs naturally as the mineral tenorite. It can be synthesized by several methods, including the thermal decomposition of copper(II) carbonate or copper(II) nitrate. A common laboratory preparation involves heating copper metal in air at temperatures above 300 degrees Celsius.

KupariIoksidi has a variety of applications. It is used as a pigment in ceramics and glass, imparting a green or blue color depending on the firing conditions. It also serves as a catalyst in various chemical reactions, including the oxidation of carbon monoxide and the synthesis of organic compounds. Furthermore, KupariIoksidi finds use in the production of other copper compounds, as a component in some dry cell batteries, and in some specialized electronic applications. Its paramagnetic properties at low temperatures have also been a subject of scientific research.
