Kunar

Kunar Province is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country. The capital is Asadabad. The province lies in the Hindu Kush mountain region along Afghanistan's border with Pakistan, and its mountainous terrain is traversed by the Kunar River, a major tributary of the Kabul River.

Geography and climate: The landscape is rugged with deep ravines and green valleys. The area experiences hot summers and cold winters, with weather influenced by its altitude and the mountain ranges that separate it from neighbouring provinces and Pakistan.

Demographics and society: The population is predominantly Pashtun, with Dari-speaking minorities. The majority follow Sunni Islam. Pashto is the primary language in daily life. The economy is primarily agricultural, with fruit orchards, cereals, and vegetables grown in valley floors; some livestock herding and small-scale trade. Infrastructure is limited outside major towns.

History and governance: The province has a long history as part of eastern Afghanistan and has been affected by recent conflicts, including the War in Afghanistan, with periods of insurgent activity and international military operations. It is subdivided into several districts, with Asadabad as the provincial capital and local authorities administering services and development projects.
