Kumbeswarar
Kumbeswarar refers to Lord Shiva in his form as the presiding deity of the Kumbeswarar Temple in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. The name "Kumbeswarar" itself signifies his association with the act of creation and protection. Legend has it that during a cosmic deluge, the pot (kumbam) containing the elixir of life and creation was protected by Lord Brahma and was about to be washed away. Lord Shiva, in his benevolent form, shot an arrow to stop the pot and then broke it. The nectar that spilled from the pot is believed to have formed the town of Kumbakonam.
