Kulisseds

Kulisseds are a type of stage scenery used in theatrical productions. The term originates from the French word "coulisse," meaning "wing" or "flat." Kulisseds are typically painted panels, often made of canvas stretched over wooden frames, that are designed to be moved on and off stage, usually from the sides. They are used to create the illusion of depth and to define the space of the stage setting.

These flats can be hung from above, slid along tracks on the stage floor, or manipulated by stagehands. The arrangement of multiple kulisseds can suggest walls, doorways, windows, or outdoor landscapes. They are a fundamental element of traditional proscenium arch theater, allowing for quick scene changes and the creation of varied environments. The design and complexity of kulisseds can range from simple, flat painted surfaces to elaborate, three-dimensional structures.
