The relative humidity can change with temperature. As the temperature increases, the air's capacity to hold water vapor also increases. Conversely, as the temperature decreases, the air's capacity to hold water vapor decreases. This relationship is governed by the Clausius-Clapeyron equation, which describes the saturation vapor pressure of water vapor as a function of temperature.

Relative humidity is also influenced by the presence of other gases in the air, such as carbon dioxide and methane, which can affect the air's capacity to hold water vapor. Additionally, relative humidity can vary significantly with altitude, as the air becomes thinner and less able to hold water vapor as the altitude increases.

In practical terms, relative humidity is often used to describe the comfort level of the air. High relative humidity can make the air feel sticky and uncomfortable, while low relative humidity can make the air feel dry and uncomfortable. Relative humidity is also a key factor in the spread of airborne diseases, as high relative humidity can promote the growth of microorganisms and the spread of respiratory infections.
