Kristallstrukturanalys, also known as crystal structure analysis, is a scientific technique used to determine the arrangement of atoms within a crystalline solid. Crystals are materials where atoms are arranged in a highly ordered, repeating three-dimensional pattern. Understanding this arrangement is crucial for explaining and predicting the physical and chemical properties of materials, such as their strength, electrical conductivity, and optical behavior.

The most common method for crystal structure analysis is X-ray diffraction (XRD). In this technique, a beam of X-rays is directed at a crystalline sample. When the X-rays encounter the regularly spaced atoms in the crystal lattice, they are scattered in specific directions. This scattering pattern, known as a diffraction pattern, is unique to the crystal's structure. By analyzing the angles and intensities of the diffracted X-rays, scientists can deduce the positions of the atoms within the unit cell, which is the smallest repeating unit of the crystal structure. Other techniques like neutron diffraction and electron diffraction can also be employed, offering complementary information.

The information obtained from crystal structure analysis is fundamental to various fields, including materials science, chemistry, physics, geology, and pharmaceuticals.
