Krioprezervációs

Krioprezervációs, also known as cryopreservation, is a process by which biological materials are preserved by cooling them to very low temperatures, typically below -130 °C. At these temperatures, biological activity, including the biochemical reactions that lead to decomposition, is effectively stopped. This allows for the long-term storage of cells, tissues, organs, and even whole organisms.

The most common method of krioprezervációs involves the use of cryoprotective agents. These are substances that prevent the formation of ice crystals within cells, which can cause damage. Common cryoprotectants include glycerol and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The biological sample is first mixed with a cryoprotective agent and then slowly cooled to a very low temperature, often in liquid nitrogen.

Krioprezervációs has a wide range of applications. It is routinely used in fertility preservation, such as storing sperm, eggs, and embryos for in vitro fertilization. It is also used in research for preserving cell lines, tissues for transplantation, and even for conserving endangered species. In some cases, the goal is not just preservation but also the potential for future revival, a concept explored in cryonics, though the long-term viability and successful revival of complex organisms from cryopreservation remains a subject of ongoing scientific research and debate.
