Krüpteerimisviise

Krüpteerimisviise refer to methods used to encrypt or decrypt information. In essence, they are algorithms that transform readable data, known as plaintext, into an unreadable format, called ciphertext, and vice versa. This process ensures the confidentiality and integrity of information, making it accessible only to authorized parties.

There are two primary categories of krüpteerimisviise: symmetric and asymmetric encryption. Symmetric encryption uses a single secret key for both encryption and decryption. This key must be securely shared between the sender and receiver. Examples include AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) and DES (Data Encryption Standard). Symmetric methods are generally faster but pose challenges in key distribution.

Asymmetric encryption, also known as public-key cryptography, employs a pair of keys: a public key and a private key. The public key can be freely distributed and is used for encryption, while the private key is kept secret by the owner and is used for decryption. This method solves the key distribution problem and is fundamental to digital signatures and secure communication protocols like TLS/SSL. RSA is a well-known example of asymmetric encryption.

Beyond these core types, other krüpteerimisviise exist, such as hashing algorithms, which are one-way functions used for data integrity checks and password storage, and stream ciphers, which encrypt data bit by bit. The choice of krüpteerimisviis depends on the specific security requirements of the application, including the need for confidentiality, authenticity, and integrity.
