Kovametalliteriä

Kovametalliteriä are cutting tools made from cemented carbide, a composite material. This material consists of fine hard particles, typically tungsten carbide (WC), cemented together by a binder metal, usually cobalt (Co). The combination of extreme hardness from the carbide particles and toughness from the binder metal gives kovametalliteriä their superior performance characteristics.

These tools are widely used in machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, and boring. Their exceptional hardness allows them to cut harder materials and at higher speeds than conventional high-speed steel tools. This increased efficiency translates to shorter machining times and improved productivity. Furthermore, kovametalliteriä offer excellent wear resistance, leading to a longer tool life and reduced tool replacement costs.

The manufacturing process for kovametalliteriä involves mixing fine carbide powders with cobalt powder, pressing the mixture into the desired shape, and then sintering it at high temperatures in a vacuum or inert atmosphere. During sintering, the cobalt melts and infiltrates the carbide particles, forming a dense and strong composite material. The specific properties of kovametalliteriä can be tailored by adjusting the grain size of the carbide particles and the percentage of binder metal. Different grades of kovametalli exist, optimized for various applications and workpiece materials, ranging from soft aluminum alloys to very hard steels and superalloys.
