Kosketusnäyttökynä, often referred to as a stylus, is an input device designed to interact with touchscreens. Unlike a finger, a stylus provides a more precise point of contact, which can be beneficial for tasks requiring fine detail, such as drawing, note-taking, or selecting small icons. Early styluses were often made of conductive rubber or plastic, designed to mimic the electrical conductivity of a human finger. These passive styluses worked by completing a capacitive circuit on the screen.

More advanced styluses utilize active technology, incorporating electronics within the pen itself. These active styluses often communicate wirelessly with the device, employing technologies like Bluetooth. They can offer features such as pressure sensitivity, allowing the line thickness or opacity to vary based on how hard the user presses. Some active styluses also include buttons that can be programmed for various functions, like simulating a right-click or activating specific app features. Styluses are commonly used with smartphones, tablets, and dedicated drawing tablets, enhancing usability and expanding the range of creative and productivity possibilities for users. The choice between a passive and active stylus often depends on the intended use and the capabilities of the touchscreen device.
