Korsningsnätverk, or crossover networks, are electronic circuits used in audio systems to divide a full-range audio signal into multiple frequency bands. These bands are then sent to different drivers within a loudspeaker system, such as woofers for low frequencies, mid-range drivers for middle frequencies, and tweeters for high frequencies. The primary purpose of a crossover network is to ensure that each driver receives only the frequencies it is designed to reproduce efficiently and accurately.

There are two main types of crossover networks: passive and active. Passive crossovers are placed between the amplifier and the loudspeaker drivers. They use passive electronic components like capacitors, inductors, and resistors to filter the audio signal. Active crossovers, on the other hand, are placed before the amplifier. They require their own power supply and use active components like op-amps to split the signal. Active crossovers offer more precise control and can be more efficient, but they also add complexity and cost to the audio system.

The design of a crossover network involves selecting the appropriate filter types and cutoff frequencies. The order of the crossover, determined by the number of reactive components, influences the steepness of the frequency rolloff. Higher-order crossovers provide a sharper transition between frequency bands, which can help minimize interference between drivers and improve overall sound reproduction. Proper crossover design is crucial for achieving a balanced and coherent sound from a multi-driver loudspeaker.
