Korrelatsioonimõõtu

Korrelatsioonimõõtu is a statistical term referring to a measure of the linear relationship between two variables. It quantifies the strength and direction of this association. The most common type of correlation measure is Pearson's correlation coefficient, often denoted by the Greek letter rho (ρ) or r.

Pearson's correlation coefficient ranges from -1 to +1. A value of +1 indicates a perfect positive linear correlation, meaning that as one variable increases, the other variable increases proportionally. A value of -1 indicates a perfect negative linear correlation, where as one variable increases, the other decreases proportionally. A value of 0 suggests no linear correlation between the two variables.

Other correlation measures exist, such as Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and Kendall's tau, which are used for non-linear relationships or when dealing with ordinal data.

It is important to note that correlation does not imply causation. While two variables may be strongly correlated, it does not mean that one causes the other. There might be a confounding variable influencing both, or the relationship could be coincidental. Understanding the correlation measure helps in identifying potential relationships that warrant further investigation.
