Korpo

Korpo is a municipality located in the Uusimaa region of Finland. It is situated on the southern coast of the country, approximately 50 kilometers west of Helsinki. The municipality is part of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and has a population of around 15,000 inhabitants. Korpo's geography is characterized by its extensive coastline and numerous islands, making it a popular destination for summer residents and tourists.

Historically, Korpo was an independent municipality. In 2009, it was consolidated with other neighboring municipalities to form the new municipality of Raseborg. However, Korpo retains its distinct identity and services. The area has a mixed population, with both Finnish and Swedish speakers, reflecting the bilingual nature of the Uusimaa region. The economy of Korpo has traditionally been based on fishing and agriculture, but tourism has become increasingly important in recent decades.

The natural environment of Korpo is a significant draw. The archipelago offers opportunities for sailing, kayaking, and hiking. The islands are home to diverse flora and fauna, with protected natural areas contributing to the region's ecological value. Several small villages and hamlets are scattered across the islands and mainland parts of Korpo, each with its own charm and local services. The administrative center of Korpo is located in Kyrkby.
