Korkotyyppiä refers to the type of interest rate applicable to a loan or financial instrument. In Finnish finance, understanding the different types of korkotyyppiä is crucial for borrowers and investors alike. The two primary categories are kiinteä korko (fixed interest rate) and vaihtuva korko (variable interest rate).

A kiinteä korko remains the same for the entire duration of the loan agreement. This provides predictability and stability, as the borrower knows exactly how much interest they will pay over time, making budgeting easier. However, fixed rates may initially be higher than variable rates to account for the lender's risk of future interest rate increases.

A vaihtuva korko, on the other hand, fluctuates over the life of the loan. It is typically tied to a benchmark rate, such as the Euribor, plus a margin set by the lender. This means the interest payments can go up or down depending on market conditions. While a variable rate might start lower than a fixed rate, it carries the risk of increased payments if market interest rates rise. Conversely, borrowers could benefit from lower payments if rates fall.
