Korkeusasema

Korkeusasema, also known as a high-altitude station, is a research facility located at high elevations, typically above 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level. These stations are used for scientific research, particularly in the fields of astronomy, atmospheric science, and geophysics. The high altitude provides several advantages for these studies, including reduced atmospheric interference for astronomical observations and a clearer view of the sky for atmospheric research.

One of the most famous Korkeusasema is the Mauna Kea Observatories in Hawaii, USA, which is located at an elevation of 4,205 meters (13,796 feet). This site hosts several of the world's most advanced telescopes, including the Subaru Telescope and the Keck Observatory. Another notable Korkeusasema is the Chacaltaya Observatory in Bolivia, which is located at an elevation of 5,230 meters (17,160 feet) and is used for atmospheric and cosmic ray research.

Korkeusasema also face unique challenges due to their high altitude, such as thin air, extreme temperatures, and strong winds.
