Koreaifélsziget

The Korean Peninsula is a geographical landmass located in East Asia, extending southwards from the northeastern part of the Asian continent. It is bordered by China and Russia to the north, and the East Sea (also known as the Sea of Japan) to the east, the Yellow Sea to the west, and the Korea Strait to the south. The peninsula is approximately 1,100 kilometers (680 miles) long and its widest point is around 300 kilometers (190 miles).

Historically, the Korean Peninsula has been a single entity for centuries, characterized by a distinct culture and language. However, following World War II and the Korean War, the peninsula was divided into two separate states: North Korea (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and South Korea (the Republic of Korea). This division has led to significant political, economic, and social divergences between the two nations.

The topography of the Korean Peninsula is predominantly mountainous, with about 70% of the land being rugged terrain. The Taebaek Mountains are a major mountain range running along the eastern coast. The western and southern parts of the peninsula feature more plains and rolling hills, which are important for agriculture. Numerous rivers crisscross the peninsula, with the longest being the Yalu and Tumen rivers forming part of the northern border. The climate varies from temperate in the south to continental in the north, with distinct four seasons. The Korean Peninsula is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, reflecting its diverse geographical features.
