Kopulationsstrukturen, also known as copulatory structures, are anatomical features found in many sexually reproducing organisms that facilitate the transfer of gametes, typically sperm, from one individual to another. These structures are diverse and have evolved independently across various taxa, reflecting different reproductive strategies and ecological pressures.

In many invertebrates, such as insects, crustaceans, and mollusks, copulatory structures can be quite elaborate and species-specific. These often involve modified appendages or external genitalia adapted for grasping, inserting, and delivering sperm. The precise morphology and function of these structures are crucial for successful mating and can play a significant role in reproductive isolation between species.

Among vertebrates, copulatory structures vary widely. In fish, some species utilize modified fins, known as gonopodia, for internal fertilization. Reptiles and birds often possess cloacal structures or hemipenes (in snakes and lizards) for sperm transfer. Mammals typically have a penis, which in males, is used to deliver sperm into the female reproductive tract, often into a vagina or cloaca. The complexity of these structures can range from simple external organs to more intricate internal systems involving specialized glands and muscles. The evolution of copulatory structures is a key aspect of sexual selection and reproductive biology.
