Koostatava is a Finnish term used as an adjective or present participle formed from the verb koostaa, meaning to assemble or to compile. It describes something that is to be assembled, compiled, or prepared, i.e., a thing that is not yet complete but is in the process of being produced.

Etymology and form: The word derives from the stem koosta- combined with the participial suffix -va, which in Finnish creates adjectives that express a state or action related to the verb. Koostatava therefore conveys a future or in-progress status, as opposed to completed or existing states described by other forms.

Usage and contexts: Koostatava is commonly found in professional, administrative, and technical contexts. It is used to label deliverables, documents, plans, or components that are still under construction or scheduled for assembly. For example, koostatava raportti means “a report to be compiled,” and koostatavien asiakirjojen lista means “the list of documents to be prepared.” The term helps distinguish items that are not yet finalized from those that are already in a finished state.
