Koordinaatühendid

Koordinaatühendid are a type of chemical bond formed between a Lewis base and a Lewis acid. A Lewis base is a species that can donate an electron pair, while a Lewis acid is a species that can accept an electron pair. In a koordinaatühend, the electron pair that forms the bond comes entirely from one of the atoms, typically the Lewis base. This is in contrast to a typical covalent bond where each atom contributes one electron to the shared pair.

The formation of a koordinaatühend is often represented by an arrow pointing from the electron-donating atom (the Lewis base) to the electron-accepting atom (the Lewis acid). For example, the reaction between ammonia (NH3) and boron trifluoride (BF3) forms a koordinaatühend. Ammonia acts as the Lewis base, donating a lone pair of electrons from the nitrogen atom to the boron atom in boron trifluoride, which acts as the Lewis acid. The resulting compound, H3N→BF3, is a stable adduct.

They are found in metal complexes, where ligands donate electron pairs to metal ions, and in various organic molecules where they contribute to the overall structure and reactivity.
