The actuator is the component that directly influences the process being controlled. It receives the control signal from the controller and manipulates a physical quantity, such as a valve position, motor speed, or heating element output, to adjust the process variable.

Finally, the process itself is what is being controlled. This could be anything from the temperature of a room to the speed of a vehicle or the level of liquid in a tank.
