Konstanttivirtakonstanttijännite, often abbreviated as CC/CV, is a common operating mode for power supplies, particularly DC power supplies. This mode allows a power supply to deliver a constant current up to a specified limit and then a constant voltage up to another specified limit.

The CC/CV mode is crucial for applications where controlling both current and voltage is necessary to protect sensitive components or to ensure proper operation. For example, when charging a battery, the initial phase might require a constant current to prevent overheating and damage. As the battery charges and its internal resistance changes, the power supply will then switch to a constant voltage mode to maintain a steady voltage across the battery terminals until it is fully charged.

This dual-mode operation is essential in battery charging, electroplating, LED driving, and various laboratory and industrial testing setups. The transition between constant current and constant voltage is automatically managed by the power supply's internal circuitry based on the load conditions. The user typically sets both the maximum desired current and the maximum desired voltage. The power supply then operates in whichever mode is required to maintain these set limits. If the load resistance is low, the current limit will be reached first, and the supply will operate in CC mode. If the load resistance is high, the voltage limit will be reached first, and the supply will operate in CV mode.
