Kondensaattoriyksiköt

Kondensaattoriyksiköt refers to capacitor banks or capacitor units in Finnish. These are collections of capacitors designed to improve the power factor of an electrical system. Power factor represents the ratio of real power (used to do work) to apparent power (total power supplied). A low power factor can lead to increased energy losses and higher electricity bills.

Capacitor units are installed in parallel with inductive loads, such as electric motors, which tend to cause the power factor to lag. The capacitors provide reactive power that compensates for the inductive reactive power, bringing the overall power factor closer to unity (1.0). This compensation reduces the amount of reactive power that needs to be supplied by the utility, thereby improving the efficiency of the power distribution system.

These units typically consist of several individual capacitor cells housed in a frame or enclosure. They are available in various voltage and kVAR (kilovolt-ampere reactive) ratings to suit different applications. Automatic capacitor banks use controllers to switch capacitor units in or out of service as needed to maintain the desired power factor under varying load conditions. Manual capacitor banks are switched by operators.
