In a parallel connection, the total capacitance is the sum of the individual capacitances. The voltage across each capacitor is the same, and the total charge is the sum of the charges on each capacitor. Parallel arrangements are typically used to increase the overall capacitance or the current handling capability of a capacitor bank.

Combinations of series and parallel connections can be used to create more complex capacitor groups with precisely tailored capacitance, voltage rating, and energy storage capabilities. These capacitor groups find applications in various electronic and electrical systems, including power factor correction, filtering in power supplies, energy storage in electronic flash units, and smoothing in DC circuits. The design of a capacitor group depends on the specific requirements of the application.
