Kolmannesvärit

Kolmannesvärit, also known as tertiary colors, are the colors produced by mixing a primary color with a secondary color. In the traditional RYB (Red, Yellow, Blue) color model, the primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. The secondary colors are created by mixing two primary colors: orange (red + yellow), green (yellow + blue), and violet (blue + red).

When a primary color is mixed with an adjacent secondary color, a tertiary color is formed. For example, mixing red with orange creates red-orange. Mixing yellow with orange creates yellow-orange. Similarly, mixing yellow with green yields yellow-green, mixing blue with green creates blue-green, mixing blue with violet results in blue-violet, and mixing red with violet produces red-violet.

These tertiary colors fill the gaps between the primary and secondary colors on the color wheel, creating a smoother transition and a wider range of hues. They are often named using a hyphenated combination, with the primary color usually mentioned first (e.g., red-orange).

In digital color models like RGB (Red, Green, Blue) and CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black), the concept of tertiary colors is similar but based on different primary and secondary mixes. However, the term "kolmannesvärit" most commonly refers to the traditional RYB model. Understanding tertiary colors is fundamental in art and design for creating nuanced color palettes and achieving specific visual effects.
