Kollektivaatioita refers to the process of organizing or consolidating resources, property, or labor into collective or common ownership or control. This concept can manifest in various forms across different social, economic, and political systems. Historically, it has been a prominent feature in socialist and communist ideologies, where the aim was to transfer ownership of the means of production from private individuals or entities to the state or the community as a whole.

In agricultural contexts, collectivization often involved the merging of individual landholdings into larger, collectively farmed units, known as collective farms or communes. The theoretical benefits included increased efficiency through economies of scale, better resource allocation, and a more equitable distribution of agricultural output. However, the practical implementation of agricultural collectivization in many countries, particularly during the 20th century, was often associated with significant social disruption, resistance from rural populations, and, in some cases, severe famines due to mismanaged production and inadequate incentives.

Beyond agriculture, kollektivaatioita can also refer to the pooling of resources in other sectors, such as housing cooperatives, worker cooperatives, or communal living arrangements. These models emphasize shared responsibility, decision-making, and benefits among members.
