Kollagénlerakódás refers to the process by which collagen is deposited in the body. Collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals, providing structural support to various tissues. This deposition is a crucial part of tissue development, repair, and remodeling.

The synthesis of collagen begins with the transcription of specific genes into messenger RNA (mRNA), which is then translated into procollagen molecules. These molecules undergo post-translational modifications, including hydroxylation and glycosylation, within the cell. Procollagen is then secreted from the cell, where it is cleaved into tropocollagen units. These tropocollagen molecules self-assemble into fibrils, which further aggregate to form mature collagen fibers. This hierarchical assembly is essential for the strength and integrity of connective tissues like skin, tendons, cartilage, and bone.

Collagen deposition is tightly regulated throughout life. During development, it forms the scaffolding for organs and tissues. In response to injury, cells like fibroblasts increase collagen production to repair damaged areas. However, excessive or disordered collagen deposition can lead to pathological conditions such as fibrosis, where scar tissue replaces healthy tissue, impairing organ function. Conditions like keloid formation are also characterized by excessive collagen accumulation. Conversely, a decline in collagen production or an increase in its degradation can lead to aging of the skin and other tissues.
