Kolikoiden

Kolikoiden is a fictional mineral described in speculative geology and worldbuilding. Named for the fictional Koliko region, kolikoiden is noted for a layered crystal structure and distinctive electronic properties that appear in many science-fiction narratives of mineralogy.

In the fictional lore, kolikoiden was first identified during deep drilling in the Koliko Basin in 2140 by researchers at the Koliko Institute of Geoscience. The name combines the place with the suffix -iden, a convention in this setting to denote mineral species.

Kolikoiden is described as a silicate-oxide composite with alternating silicate sheets and interlayer metal-rich domains. The approximate model is (Si,Al)2(O,S)3 with trace Fe, Ti, and Cu. Crystals are layered, with monoclinic to orthorhombic habit.

It reportedly has a hardness around 6–7 on the Mohs scale, a lavender-gray color, and a vitreous luster. In fiction, it is described as highly anisotropic with notable optical and electronic characteristics.

In-world geology places kolikoiden in ultramafic metamorphic rocks and high-pressure zones of the Koliko Basin, often in vein networks associated with garnet and pyroxene. It is said to form under subduction-related metamorphism and rapid crystallization.

In stories, kolikoiden is sometimes depicted as a potential material for advanced electronics or energy storage due to claimed conductive or superconducting properties. Scarcity and the fictional nature of the mineral limit practical applications to theory and worldbuilding.
