Kolaka

Kolaka is a regency (kabupaten) of Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The administrative center is the town of Kolaka. The regency lies on the southeast coast of Sulawesi along Kolaka Bay and extends inland into hilly terrain. It borders North Kolaka Regency to the north, the rest of Southeast Sulawesi to the west and south, and the sea to the east. The area has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons.

Kolaka Regency is subdivided into several districts (kecamatan) and is governed from the town of Kolaka, the seat of government.

Economy: The economy relies on agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, with crops such as coconuts, cocoa, coffee, and maize. There is mining activity in parts of the regency, including nickel and other minerals, and related processing. The coastal location supports fishing, trade, and growing service sectors in the urban center. Tourism is emerging, notably around Teluk Kolaka (Kolaka Bay) and other coastal landscapes.

Transport and infrastructure: The regency is connected by major roads to Kendari and other centers in Southeast Sulawesi. A coastal port serves maritime trade, and regional air links connect Kolaka with larger hubs.

History and administration: Kolaka has historical links with the Buton region and became part of the modern Indonesian state through decentralization and administrative reforms. The area is administered as a single regency with several districts; the city of Kolaka serves as the administrative and economic center.
