Kohlenstoffatom

Kohlenstoffatom is the German term for a carbon atom. Carbon is a chemical element with the symbol C and atomic number 6. It is a nonmetal and belongs to group 14 of the periodic table. Carbon atoms are fundamental to organic chemistry, forming the backbone of countless molecules, including all known life forms.

The atomic structure of a carbon atom consists of a nucleus containing six protons and typically six neutrons, surrounded by six electrons. Its electron configuration is 1s^2 2s^2 2p^2. This arrangement allows carbon to form four covalent bonds with other atoms, a property crucial for its versatility in molecular structures.
