Kohezioni

Kohezioni is a term used across disciplines to denote the tendency of parts to stay together or to act as a unified whole. Etymology and usage roots lie in the Latin cohaesio, from cohaerere, meaning to stick together. In many languages, including Albanian, kohezioni is used in both scientific and figurative senses to describe internal bonding, solidarity, or structural integrity.

In the natural sciences, cohesion describes the attractive forces that hold the molecules or atoms of a substance together. These forces give a material its structural integrity and influence properties such as boiling and melting points, tensile strength, and surface tension. In chemistry and materials science, cohesive energy refers to the energy required to separate constituents of a solid or liquid.

In geotechnical contexts, cohesion is a component of soil shear strength. It represents the internal bonding that resists shearing and is combined with frictional resistance in equations that predict soil behavior under load.

In the social sciences, cohesion refers to the quality of social bonds within a group or society. It encompasses trust, mutual obligation, shared values, and social capital, and is often assessed to understand the resilience, stability, or integration of communities.
