Koheesiokyky, also known as cohesion, refers to the forces that hold a substance together. These forces can be categorized into two main types: cohesive forces and adhesive forces. Cohesive forces are the interactions between molecules of the same substance, while adhesive forces are the interactions between molecules of different substances.

In liquids, cohesive forces are responsible for surface tension, which is the property that allows liquids to resist external forces. For example, water droplets form spherical shapes due to surface tension. Cohesive forces also play a crucial role in capillary action, where liquids rise or fall in narrow tubes or porous materials.

In solids, cohesive forces determine the material's strength and rigidity. For instance, the strong cohesive forces between metal atoms give metals their characteristic strength and malleability. In contrast, weak cohesive forces in gases allow them to expand and fill any container they are placed in.

Cohesion is influenced by various factors, including temperature, pressure, and the nature of the molecules involved. For example, as temperature increases, cohesive forces in liquids generally decrease, leading to a decrease in surface tension and an increase in vapor pressure.

Understanding cohesion is essential in many fields, including chemistry, physics, and materials science.
