Koaksiaalilämpöverkko, known in English as coaxial district heating, is a type of district heating system that uses a coaxial pipe design. This design involves two concentric pipes within a single casing. The inner pipe carries the hot water supply, and the outer pipe returns the cooled water. This arrangement offers several advantages over traditional dual-pipe systems.

The primary benefit of the coaxial design is its space efficiency. By having both supply and return lines integrated into one unit, it requires less trenching and installation space, which can significantly reduce civil engineering costs and disruption during network construction. This is particularly advantageous in densely populated urban areas or where space is limited.

Another advantage is improved thermal efficiency. The coaxial structure can help to pre-heat the returning cold water with the heat from the outgoing hot water, thereby reducing heat loss from the supply pipe and increasing the overall energy efficiency of the system. This heat recovery aspect can lead to lower operational costs and reduced environmental impact.
