Klímatípusokat refers to climate types, the classification of climates based on statistical data of temperature, precipitation, and other meteorological variables over a period of time. These classifications help in understanding and comparing the climatic conditions of different regions across the globe. Various systems exist for classifying climates, each with its own set of criteria and nomenclature.

One of the most widely used systems is the Köppen climate classification, developed by Wladimir Köppen. It categorizes climates into five main groups, denoted by letters: A (tropical), B (dry), C (temperate), D (continental), and E (polar). Within these main groups, further subdivisions exist based on specific temperature and precipitation patterns, such as tropical rainforest (Af), tropical monsoon (Am), hot desert (BWh), cold desert (BWk), Mediterranean (Csa), humid subtropical (Cfa), oceanic (Cfb), tundra (ET), and ice cap (EF).

Another significant classification system is the Trewartha climate classification, which modifies the Köppen system by adding more specific categories for temperate and continental climates, and a separate group for oceanic climates. Thornthwaite's system is also notable, particularly for its focus on evapotranspiration and its use in agricultural and hydrological studies. These classification systems are essential tools for geographers, climatologists, ecologists, and urban planners, aiding in the study of vegetation patterns, agricultural suitability, water resource management, and the prediction of climate change impacts.
