Kindlustustooteid, or insurance products, are financial contracts that transfer risk from the insured to an insurer in exchange for a premium. They provide financial protection against uncertain losses by defining coverage, limits, and terms in a policy.

Insurance products are typically divided into two broad groups: life insurance and non-life (property and casualty) insurance. Life insurance includes products such as term life and whole life, sometimes offering savings components and annuities. Non-life insurance covers property (home, automobile, and other valuables), liability (third‑party damages for which the insured may be responsible), health, travel, and specialty lines like cyber or business interruption.

A policy sets out core elements: premium, sum insured or coverage limit, deductible, policy period, and geographic scope. Coverage may be subject to exclusions and can be modified by endorsements or riders. Insurance is sold through insurers directly, or via brokers and agents, with underwriting used to assess risk.

Regulation: Insurance products are regulated to protect consumers and ensure insurers’ solvency. In many jurisdictions, this is achieved through national supervisory authorities and adherence to international or EU standards, including capital requirements, licensing, and disclosure rules.

Claims and consumer considerations: In the event of loss, the insured submits a claim for validation; the insurer determines eligibility and pays out within policy terms. When selecting products, consumers should compare coverage, premiums, exclusions, claim handling, and the financial strength of the insurer, and ensure the product matches their needs and risk profile.
