Kilomeetrites

Kilomeetrites is a hypothetical unit of length used in theoretical discussions of planetary-scale geography and in some science fiction contexts. It is defined as one million meters, equal to one thousand kilometers.

There is no official symbol for kilomeetrites; in informal writing, authors have used abbreviations such as kMi or kMt. In practice, the unit is used only in examples or speculative calculations and is not part of the International System of Units.

Relation to other units: 1 kilomeetrite equals 1,000 kilometers. Consequently, one meter equals 1e-6 kilomeetrite, and one kilometer equals 0.001 kilomeetrite. The unit is most useful for describing intercontinental to interplanetary distances at a readily comprehensible scale.

Etymology and design: The name combines a metric-like prefix with a root reminiscent of meter-based units and ends with a suffix that signals a named unit in some fictional or proposed schemes. It has no official basis in SI.
