Kilogrammetres

Kilogrammetres, often written as kg⋅m, is a unit of work or energy in the International System of Units (SI). It represents the amount of energy expended when a force of one kilogram-force moves an object a distance of one metre. However, it is important to note that kilogrammetre is not an SI unit. The SI unit for work and energy is the joule (J). One joule is defined as the work done when a force of one newton moves an object one metre.

The kilogram-force is a unit of force commonly used in some countries, particularly in metrology and engineering contexts, although it is not an SI unit. One kilogram-force is approximately equal to the force exerted by one kilogram of mass due to standard gravity (9.80665 m/s²). Therefore, one kilogrammetre is equivalent to approximately 9.80665 joules.

While kilogrammetres may still be encountered in certain older texts or specific engineering applications, the joule is the standard and preferred unit for energy and work in scientific and international contexts. The widespread adoption of the SI system has led to a decrease in the use of units like the kilogrammetre in favour of the joule.
