Kesälahti

Kesälahti is a former municipality of Finland. It is located in the North Karelia region. In 2013, Kesälahti merged with the town of Kitee. The area is known for its natural beauty, characterized by lakes and forests typical of the Finnish Lakeland. Before the merger, Kesälahti was part of the province of Eastern Finland. The municipality's administrative center was the village of Kesälahti, which is still a significant locality within Kitee.

The economy of Kesälahti historically relied on agriculture, forestry, and small-scale industry. Like many rural Finnish municipalities, it faced challenges related to population decline and economic restructuring in the latter half of the 20th century. The picturesque landscapes and numerous summer cottages contribute to its appeal as a tourist destination, particularly during the warmer months. Fishing and outdoor recreation are popular activities in the region. The name "Kesälahti" translates to "Summer Bay," reflecting its association with the summer season and its lakeside location.
