Keskipumppu
Keskipumppu, often translated as mid-pump or central pump, refers to a type of pump integrated directly into the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. This design is distinct from external pumps that are driven by a belt or chain. The crankshaft itself is hollowed out to act as a conduit for the fluid, typically oil. As the crankshaft rotates, centrifugal force generated by the rotating mass helps to draw the fluid into the crankshaft. The fluid then travels through internal passages within the crankshaft and is distributed to various lubrication points in the engine, such as bearings and camshafts. This integrated approach offers several advantages, including a more compact design and a direct, efficient delivery of lubrication. It can also contribute to a cleaner engine bay by eliminating external drive mechanisms. The implementation of a keskipumppu requires precise engineering and manufacturing to ensure proper flow and prevent leakage.
