Keskaegadel

Keskaegadel is a term that refers to the Middle Ages, a historical period in European history spanning from the 5th to the 15th century. This era is traditionally considered to have begun with the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD and ended with the fall of Constantinople in 1453 AD. The Middle Ages are often divided into three sub-periods: the Early Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages, and the Late Middle Ages.

The Early Middle Ages, sometimes referred to as the Dark Ages, was a time of significant political and social upheaval following the collapse of Roman authority. This period saw the migration of various Germanic tribes and the formation of new kingdoms, such as the Frankish Empire. Feudalism began to emerge as a dominant social and economic system.

The High Middle Ages, from around the 11th to the 13th centuries, witnessed a revival of trade, the growth of towns and cities, and the development of significant cultural and intellectual movements. This era also saw the Crusades, a series of religious wars, and the construction of grand cathedrals. Major universities were founded, and scholasticism became a prominent philosophical approach.

The Late Middle Ages, from the 14th to the 15th centuries, was marked by widespread challenges, including the Black Death, which devastated populations across Europe. Famine, war, and social unrest were common. Despite these hardships, significant advancements continued in areas like art, literature, and early forms of proto-industrialization, setting the stage for the Renaissance.
