Keretformátum, often translated as frame format or framing, refers to the structure and organization of data within a communication frame. In digital communication systems, data is typically transmitted in discrete packets called frames. The keretformátum defines how the header, payload, and trailer of a frame are arranged, including the order and length of different fields within these sections.

The header usually contains control information such as source and destination addresses, frame type, and sequence numbers. The payload, also known as the data portion, carries the actual information being transmitted. The trailer often includes error detection codes, like cyclic redundancy checks (CRA) or checksums, to ensure data integrity during transmission.

Different protocols and network layers employ distinct keretformátum. For instance, Ethernet frames have a specific structure that differs from those used in Wi-Fi or cellular networks. The keretformátum is crucial for devices to correctly interpret, process, and forward data. It enables synchronization between sender and receiver, allows for efficient multiplexing of data streams, and facilitates error handling.
