Kemetists

Kemetists are individuals who identify with and practice the ancient Egyptian religion, often referred to as Kemetism. This modern revival of ancient Egyptian spirituality draws from various sources, including ancient Egyptian texts, artifacts, and archaeological findings. Kemetists typically focus on the worship of the ancient Egyptian deities, such as Ra, Isis, Osiris, and Horus, and engage in practices like ritual magic, divination, and the study of ancient Egyptian culture.

The term "Kemet" is derived from the ancient Egyptian word "KMT," which means "Black Land," referring to the fertile soil of Egypt. Kemetists often use this term to refer to ancient Egypt and its associated beliefs and practices. The movement gained prominence in the late 20th century, with the publication of books like Robert Schoch's "The Egyptian Book of the Dead" and the founding of the Ancient Egyptian Religion Association in 1993.

Kemetists may practice their faith individually or as part of a community, and their beliefs and practices can vary widely. Some Kemetists focus on the practical aspects of ancient Egyptian magic and ritual, while others emphasize the philosophical and spiritual teachings of ancient Egyptian texts. Despite these differences, Kemetists share a common interest in the ancient Egyptian religion and its enduring influence on Western spirituality.
