Keduanya

Keduanya is an Indonesian term meaning "both of them" or "the two." It functions as a pronominal reference used to indicate two people or things that have already been mentioned or are understood from context. Keduanya can act as the subject or the object of a sentence and is typically used in neutral or formal contexts; in casual speech, the variant duanya is also common.

The word keduanya is formed from kedua, which means "the two" or "the second," plus the suffix -nya to create a pronominal form that refers collectively to the two items. While kedua can be used as an adjective before a noun (kedua negara, for example), keduanya specifically refers back to the two entities as a unit in discourse.

Examples:

- Keduanya setuju dengan rencana itu. (Both of them agree with the plan.)

- Saya melihat keduanya di pintu masuk. (I saw both of them at the entrance.)

- Keduanya penting untuk proyek ini. (Both are important for this project.)

- Kedua negara itu memiliki hubungan historis yang panjang. (Those two countries have a long historical relationship.) Note that in this last example, kedua serves as an adjective before a noun, whereas keduanya would be used when referring back to two previously mentioned entities.
