Kaugküttimine

Kaugküttimine is a heating system where heat is generated centrally and then distributed to multiple buildings through a network of insulated pipes. This central heat source can be a dedicated power plant, industrial waste heat, or biomass combustion. The hot water or steam produced travels through underground pipes to reach individual homes, offices, and other structures. At each building, a heat exchanger transfers the thermal energy from the district heating network to the building's internal heating system.

This system offers several advantages, including increased energy efficiency, reduced local emissions, and the potential to utilize a wider range of energy sources, including renewable ones. By concentrating heat generation at a single, often more efficient facility, overall fuel consumption can be lowered, and pollutants can be managed more effectively than with numerous individual heating systems. Kaugküttimine is particularly prevalent in urban areas and colder climates where the demand for heating is high and consistent. The infrastructure requires significant initial investment but can provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly heating over the long term. Maintenance and operation are typically managed by a dedicated utility company.
