Kationvahetusvõimet refers to the ability of a substance to exchange cations, which are positively charged ions. This property is particularly important in the context of ion-exchange resins, materials widely used in water treatment, chemical separation, and analytical chemistry. These resins are typically porous polymers containing charged functional groups. When a solution containing cations passes through a bed of these resins, cations in the solution can be adsorbed onto the resin's functional groups, and in exchange, cations already present on the resin are released into the solution.
