Katettavuus

Katettavuus is a Finnish noun describing the state or degree of being covered or of being able to be covered by another material or element. It is formed from the verb kattaa, meaning to cover, with the suffix -vuus that marks a quality or condition. The term can be used in both physical and abstract senses.

In everyday language, katettavuus may describe how much of a surface is overlain by a protective layer, a lid, a blanket, or similar coverings. In engineering, architecture, logistics, and planning, it is used to discuss coverability or the capacity of an object or system to be covered, for instance in design specifications where a layer or protection needs to be applied.

In practice, many contexts now employ the cognate kattavuus to refer to actual coverage—such as the geographic or service coverage of a network—whereas katettavuus tends to emphasize potential, capacity, or the property of being coverable.
