Karangetang

Karangetang is a stratovolcano located on Siau Island in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, with frequent eruptions occurring throughout its recorded history. The volcano's summit has a complex crater system, and its slopes are covered in lava flows and ash deposits.

The island of Siau is densely populated, with many communities situated on the volcano's flanks. This proximity to an active volcano poses significant risks to the local population, and the Indonesian government has implemented monitoring systems and evacuation plans.

Karangetang's eruptive history is characterized by effusive lava flows and occasional explosive activity. Lava flows have frequently descended its slopes, sometimes reaching the coastline. Karangetang's eruptions are closely monitored by the Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation to provide early warnings to residents and facilitate disaster preparedness.
