Kapselverkürzungen
Kapselverkürzungen, also known as capsulorhexis or capsulotomy, are surgical procedures involving the opening of the capsule surrounding the lens of the eye. The most common context for this term is within cataract surgery. During a standard cataract extraction, the surgeon meticulously creates a circular opening in the anterior (front) part of the lens capsule. This opening, termed an anterior capsulorhexis, allows for the safe removal of the clouded natural lens and the subsequent insertion of an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). The size and integrity of the capsulorhexis are crucial for the successful implantation and stable positioning of the IOL.
