Kaldeic

Kaldeic is a term used in speculative fiction and world-building to designate a fictional language family and the cultures associated with it. It is not a real-world language. The name echoes the historical Kaldea in Mesopotamia, and writers use Kaldeic as a shorthand for ancient, city-centered civilizations with scholarly traditions.

In various works, Kaldeic languages are portrayed as ancient and influential, often linked to temple, court, or mercantile communities. Because Kaldeic is a fictional construct, there is no canonical grammar; the linguistic features vary by author. Some depictions imagine Kaldeic as an agglutinative or fusional system with a rich nominal case system and honorifics, while others present it with an alphabetic or syllabic script inspired by cuneiform. Phonologies are typically described as consonant-heavy, sometimes with glottal stops or ejectives, but details differ.

Culturally, Kaldeic-speaking societies are shown as centers of administration, scholarship, and trade, with inscriptions and chronicles playing a key role in the setting’s history. Texts in Kaldeic often appear on monuments, manuscripts, and religious records, and the language may serve plot functions such as diplomacy or legal ritual.
