Kadrist

Kadrist refers to a follower of Kadirism, a spiritual and philosophical movement founded by Abdul Qadir Jilani. Jilani was a prominent Hanbali jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic who lived from 1077 to 1166 CE. Kadirism is one of the oldest and most widespread Sufi orders.

Followers, known as Kadris or Qadris, adhere to Jilani's teachings, which emphasize a life of piety, devotion, and service to God. Central to Kadrist practice are the principles of Tawhid (oneness of God), adherence to Sharia (Islamic law), and the pursuit of spiritual purification (tazkiyah). They often engage in remembrance of God (dhikr), contemplation, and the study of religious texts.

The order is known for its emphasis on asceticism and detachment from worldly desires, aiming to cultivate a deep connection with the divine. Kadrist teachings often highlight the importance of love, compassion, and justice. While the core tenets are rooted in Sunni Islam, the specific practices and interpretations can vary among different branches and communities of Kadris globally. The movement has had a significant influence on Islamic spirituality and has spread across various parts of the world.
