Kadayawan

Kadayawan is an annual festival celebrated in Davao City, Philippines, typically held on the third week of August. The festival's name comes from the Lumad word "dayaw," which means "beautiful" or "magnificent." It is a celebration of thanksgiving for nature's bountiful gifts, and it also honors the indigenous peoples of Davao.

The origins of Kadayawan can be traced back to the pre-Hispanic era when indigenous tribes would gather to offer thanks for a good harvest. Over time, it evolved into a more inclusive festival that showcases the rich cultural heritage of Davao's diverse ethnic groups. These include the Bagobo, Ata, Ubo, Klata, Sama, T'boli, and Maguindanao.
